At his feet

ok my ym When I was a kid, my dad was carrying an agenda. It kept a record of your appointments, things that had task and their contacts. Thus, he would always have these details handy, and should not rely on memory.

To me, however, this seemed nothing more and nothing less than slavery. Even I decided, as a child, I never would charge an agenda. She would not let my life be filled with many responsibilities, or that my memory would fail to the degree of need an agenda.

I must say that that decision had to change. Soon after entering the ministry, I realized that life would be impossible without some kind of organization. You simply can not remember how many things must be done without any system.

Maybe for some of you your organization is the calendar that is in the kitchen, where all things are pointing that has to be done on weekdays. Perhaps for others the way you organize is to ask his wife to remember what to do. As they say, two heads are better than one.

No matter how we organize ourselves, but sooner or later comes the feeling that life is out of control. Eric Hoffer described it: "The feeling of distress is not usually the result of living a full life and not having enough time. It arises, rather, of an undefined fear that we are wasting our lives. When we do that thing only that should we do, we have no time for anything else - we are the busiest in the world. "

Can you identify with that feeling? Have you ever felt that, rather than try to grab the life you get out of hand? Do you feel you're too busy, but you're not accomplishing anything?

This situation is not new. It arises from the fact that, as humans, we were made for a purpose which, unfortunately, often missed. How can we escape from the rat race and have peace in the depths of our being? Find the answer in a scene from the life of Jesus.

Reading: Luke 10:38-42

10:38 And it came to leaving, entered him in a village and a woman named Martha received him into her house.
10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at the feet of Jesus, heard his word.
10:40 But Martha was encumbered about much serving, and came says: Lord, dost thou not care that my
sister left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me.
10:41 But Jesus answered and said, Martha, you are careful, and the many things you're embarrassed:
10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be removed.

Ever ever thought what you would do if Jesus Christ were to visit your home? Well, for starters, I hope that there was nothing he'd have to hide. I hope that it would be necessary to change the TV channel, put a different radio station or hide some of the magazines you have around.

Beyond that, however, would be natural to want to give him the best. I can imagine some of the conversations: What can we give? I have nothing in the fridge! Go buy something quick! Would not it be better to take to a restaurant? Look, the tortillas are not enough for everyone. Do you think you could ask that multiply as it did with the bread?

Marta was with this desire. Remember that Jesus would at least twelve disciples. We know that sometimes those who accompanied Jesus were only twelve. Marta then encountered the unexpected responsibility to feed at least thirteen hungry men.

No wonder, then, that Martha has been a little busy. It appears that Martha was the eldest of the sisters, since the house is described here as his. We have the classic scene of the responsible older sister, who worries about the housework, and the irresponsible younger sister, who prefers something more interesting.

Logically, Marta expected Jesus to support it. Perhaps Martha, a girl, had to rely on their parents for forced Mary to do the tasks to him. Perhaps he thought that Jesus would be the same. Jesus, however, surprising - and also startles us.

The first surprise is that Jesus defends Mary, a woman. In those days it was unheard of for a teacher or rabbi, as Jesus is believed, had female students. It was believed that women lacked the mental capacity to understand the deep spiritual truths of Scripture.

Some people even doubted whether women had souls. I imagine, then, that some of the disciples of Jesus will have been surprised that a woman's acceptance as a student, instead of sending it to the kitchen.

Jesus Christ is no respecter of persons. No matter the value that society assigns you, Jesus invites you to sit at his feet and learn from Him Jesus accepted the marginalized - children, the poor, women - and still acceptable.

The second surprise is that Jesus defended Mary, instead of taking the side of Martha. After all, just given the parable of the Good Samaritan. It is likely that this parable has been given before reaching the home of Martha and Mary, but imagine for a moment that Marta had heard.

Surely it could have been defended as follows: I am serving you, Lord, just as the Samaritan who put an example in history. In place of refuge in religion, I'm doing something - exactly as did the Samaritan. Are not we taught that we should help others?

This leads to a very important conclusion. It is the recognition that Christ is not simply seeking to serve Him. The search service that is born of a real and living relationship with Him

In other words, it is possible WORRY both things are really good that we lose the most important. That's what happened to Martha. "Martha was doing bad things? Of course not! However, it was replacing something good for something better.

In this concern and anxiety for many things, you lose the point. We strive to care for our family. Do not want God to take care of our family? Yes!
But if we sacrifice our relationship with Him for it.

We are dedicated to excel. Would not God want us to move forward and overcome? Yes! But not if it costs us our relationship with Him even we spend so much time helping others to leave to be with the Lord. Would not God want us to help others? Of course. But I want to take the place of our relationship with Him

Some years ago it was fashionable to cover bronze objects of special value. Many parents, for example, sent the shoes of their babies for the Broncos. The story, probably apocryphal, of a boy who won a gold medal. He was so proud that they had him covered with bronze.

Do the same when we change the most valuable thing in our lives - the privilege of sitting at the feet of Jesus - for anything else. We are filled with worries and concerns, and we forget the most important thing in life.

Here is a great promise for those who are willing to let worry and sit at his feet. Jesus says: "Mary has chosen the good part, and nobody gets away."

Amid the swaying of the modern world constantly feel that we pursue a goal that eludes us. In racing of greyhounds, the poor dogs constantly pursuing a mechanical rabbit that never do get caught. For more than running, never able to grasp.

The most cruel irony, however, is that the greyhound arrived to catch the rabbit would find a nasty surprise. Instead of a delicious morsel, his teeth would set a dull metal.

Like those dogs, constantly pursuing a dream that turns out to be an illusion - the illusion of success, contentment, pleasure or satisfaction. Most are not reached, but even those who discover that they had reached what they believed.

Jesus tells us that something we can achieve and that no one can remove. That peace that He gives us that only comes when we spend time with Him, will fill our being and never lose. That life which springs from the will be ours, and we never will be removed.

Now consider your own life. What are those things that fill your life? The work is likely one of them. Work is a blessing from God, but it can become a curse when it occupies a place that should not.

Let me ask you a question: do you work to live, or live to work? If the job you are away from God, consider how you can give Him the first place. No matter when that is, separating Him That time to time of fellowship with God through prayer and Bible reading is essential. We become clones of Martha when we forget.

Beyond that, however, if you know that peace and security that only Jesus can give, we need Him to be your Savior and your Lord. Accepting Christ as Lord and Savior is not just a question of repeating a prayer, or raise a hand or to the front of a shrine.

It's about making a decision to rely only on the heart of Him for the forgiveness of sins, and let Him guide our lives. It means putting our lives at will.

That's the first thing you have to do today, if you know that thing in your life that no one can take away - the promise of forgiveness and eternal life. And if you know Christ, consider: what are the things you have to simplify your life to have time on their feet?

Life is full of many concerns, but one thing is essential. Jesus said, "Without me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5). Let us not separate Jesus. Keep this union with Christ, and choose the best thing that exists.
