For a limited time. Ebenezer. August 2011

Monsiváis By Dr. Sergio Antonio Corona Páez.

One of the most interesting aspects of the personality of Carlos Monsivais, was his Protestant faith. This faith is not acquired as a former Catholic, but that came from family, his mother Dona Esther Monsivais. Monsivais authored the book "Protestantism, diversity and tolerance" (National Commission on Human Rights, 2002) and of course, was also an intellectual who defended the rights of religious minorities, particularly Protestant followers and institutions.

The "encyclopedia" of Monsivais, ie its cultural heritage, including first and foremost, the Bible, in the Spanish version of Cassiodorus de Reina and Cipriano de Valera (1569-1602), widely known as King James Bible, the which is updated revisions of 1960 and 1990.

Hence Monsivais give great importance, in their imagination, these Spaniards "heterodox" and many other icons, facts and power movements in the history of Reformed Churches, as Jan Hus, Luther, Calvin, Theodore Beza, Zwingli, John Bunyan, John Milton, Puritans, Quakers, Sunday School, Huguenot, Admiral de Coligny, the St. Bartholomew's, D'Aubigné Aggripa, John Wesley, John Brown, Karl Barth, Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu.

Should not be surprising, then, that someone like Carlos Monsivais, remarkable for its prophetic voice. There is a causal relationship between the cultural background of Monsivais and critical attitude toward power. As we approach this article in a biblical context, we understand that in the Bible, the prophet is not predicting the future. In the daily use of Israel, "prophet" meant more "interpreter of the divine will for mankind" or "that looks and says things from the viewpoint of God."

The prophets were never members of the clergy have always been advocates of social change, to denounce injustice, falsehood and oppression. A good example of this is offered by the poet Javier Sicilia. Because of their terrible loss, the disappearance of her son in unclear circumstances, has been developed in the poet a peculiar perception of social reality, which has led him to see with clarity, and thus to denounce the most negative and abusive of power. Has taken leadership and convening power nationally. For reasons like these, the prophets have always been persecuted by the powerful.

Monsivais was awarded mentioned awards, including the Prince Claus granted Holland (1998), Gabriela Mistral Medal of Chile (2001) and FIL Literature Prize Guadalajara (before Prix Latin American and Caribbean Juan Rulfo) 2006, as well as an honorary doctorate from the University of Arizona (2006).

Although this is not official chronicler affection with epithets and qualities qualify, you must recognize that Monsivais, Mexico had one of its most notorious Protestant.
